Attawapiskat Case Study

The problem in Attawapiskat:

- Many teens need to leave and go to Thunder Bay to get a proper High School education

- They need to leave because..... there is no high school in their town

- Elementary kids..... have a broken school because of a toxic diesel leak

- Their temporary school is...... run down and non heated portables

- Many of the students struggle with...... literacy (reading and writing)

- Justin Trudeau has pledged millions of dollars for fixing first nation education

I Think......
- that our government doesn't really care about it.
- it is a right for the kids to have a good education.
- the government should support FN schools like our schools.
- FN teens should not have to travel away from their families to go to school.

Mr. Ricci Movie Review #2

Batman Returns is the sequel to the 1989 Batman movie, Batman.  This movie was really popular when it came out.  I have a funny story about when this movie came out.  My Dad, brother, and I went to go to see this movie at the Markville movie theater.  I was very excited to see it.

At the start of the movie is a terrifying scene in which the Penguins henchmen show up to a Christmas party.  The scene TERRIFIED ME and my brother!  It scared us so much that we begged our Dad to take us out of the movie.  After watching only about 20 minutes of the movie, we went home.  We were too scared to keep watching.

As an adult, I have watched this movie many times.  It is good, but not really scary to me any more.  Are there any movies you remember that were scary to you then, but not so much to you now?

Mr. Ricci Movie Review #1 Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins is a classic Disney film that was one of the first to use live action and animation in the same film.  I remember as a kid watching this movie and REALLY REALLY enjoying it.  This was before the time of DVD, BLU RAY, and NETFLIX.  I would watch this movie on VHS, a precursor to what we use today.

Believe it or not, one of the best parts of this film is the music.  It is really catchy and funny.  Songs like Spoon Full of Sugar and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious are really catchy.  One of the best scenes of the film is when the main characters dance on the roof tops with the chimney cleaners.  Even when I watch this movie as an adult, I sing along with all of the songs.

Sometimes, the best movies are the ones that remind you of your childhood.  This is one of those films.  No matter when I watch it, it takes me back to the times of being a kid.  Are there any movies that give you that feeling?

Even though I love this film, there are a few scenes that I do not enjoy.  Some of the sadder songs do not pull me in like the other ones.  Even so, I still enjoy it.

Did you know, that they are making a new Mary Poppins film with Emily Blunt?  I may go see it.  But, I am not sure it will be as good as the original.  Sometimes remakes make the film worse.  Know what I mean?

If you have not seen Mary Poppins, you must.  It is a wonderful film that people of all ages can enjoy.  I give Mary Poppins a A+, overall.  Check it out!

Movie Poster, Media

When I was a kid, this poster hung in the basement of both of my houses.  When I was young, my family moved into a different house.  This poster came with us.  Believe it or not, this poster was huge.  It is easily around 6 feet fall and 3 feet wide.  My Dad said it was the sort of poster they would hang in movie theaters.  I remember staring at it as a kid and liking the spaceship and weird circular tower it flew out of.  I saw the movie as an adult, and was not that impressed by it.  But, I still really like the poster.  You know what?  The poster still hangs in my parents basement today.
